AI is killing content, but what about website visitors?

In the past few years, there’s a trend in the making: AI is killing content, and content creators are not happy about it.

Whether it’s ChatGPT, Claude, Google, or some other amazing LLM solution, basically all public content on the Internet is being sucked into their “knowledge” and “skillset”. Websites like Reddit and Stack Overflow, and other similar communities find their content available and used when someone “Asks AI”.

In the case of Google, it may be somewhat more obvious since they’re a huge search engine that have now integrated “AI” into their product. But I’m guessing this will be the de facto standard before long.

And now, content creators are beginning to realize that their platform doesn’t actually serve visitors the way they used to. And, they bitch about it. At first glance, their moaning is probably justified. But, on the other hand, many of these sites have happily been using non-privacy friendly ads and trackers for years, sometimes via Google, sometimes via other platforms. And there has never been any question about the fact that these ad solutions and trackers are, in fact, violating users’ privacy.

I never heard these content creators or content communities, using privacy-violating advertising solutions, bitch and moan about visitor privacy being violated. In fact, it’s more common than not, that these sites include Google Analytics, Google Fonts, Hotjar, Facebook, Twitter (X), and so on.
